Buying an FFXI Account: What to Check Before You Buy

Starting Final Fantasy XI from scratch in 2026 is a long road. Leveling a single job to 99, earning master levels, and building gear that keeps up with current content can take hundreds of hours. That is why many returning and new players look at buying an established FFXI account instead. If you are considering it, here is what to check before you buy.

1. Decide what you actually need

Write down what you want to do in the game before you browse listings. A player who wants to jump straight into high-end Odyssey or Sortie content needs a very different account from someone who just wants a capable support job to play with friends. Knowing your goal keeps you from paying for gear and jobs you will never use.

  • Main job and role: tank, healer, support, melee or magic damage.
  • Content you want to run: casual leveling, Ambuscade, Odyssey, Sortie, Dynamis, or mostly social play.
  • Budget: fully geared endgame characters cost much more than a solid all-rounder.

2. Jobs and master levels

Look at how many jobs are at level 99 and which ones. Support jobs like Geomancer, Corsair, Bard and White Mage are always in demand for groups. Check job points and master levels too: a job with 2100 job points and a master level of 20 or more is far closer to endgame-ready than a fresh 99.

3. Gear: weapons and armor that matter

Gear is where most of an account's value sits. Relic, Mythic, Empyrean, Aeonic and Prime weapons take a very long time to build, so a listing with one or more finished weapons can save months of work. For armor, look for upgraded artifact, relic and empyrean sets (+3 or better), plus current endgame pieces such as Nyame or Malignance. Ask whether gear is stored on the main character or spread across mules.

4. Expansions, add-ons and extras

Make sure the account includes the expansions and add-on scenarios you need. Unlocked content such as Rhapsodies of Vana'diel progress, Unity rank, key items, mounts and trusts all add real value and save time, so check them in the listing details.

5. Account access and security after purchase

When you receive an account, take control of it straight away:

  • Change the Square Enix account password and the registered email address.
  • Set up or re-register the one-time password (security token or app) under your own device.
  • Update any security questions and check that the account's payment details are your own.
  • Keep the information you receive, including registration codes, somewhere safe.

6. Buy from an established seller

Private deals on forums or Discord are where most problems happen. An established marketplace that verifies accounts, describes jobs and gear in detail, and stands behind the sale is worth a lot more than a few dollars saved. Look for detailed listings, screenshots or equipment lists, clear pricing and responsive support before and after the sale.
